MBA Essay: Should You Buy an HBS Reviewed Essay?

Автор: Abraham Andersen 07.07.2022

What is the hardest part of getting an MBA?

Recommendations? Summary? Essay? Many MBA applicants think that the essay is the most difficult stage. Nothing is more discouraging than the lack of ideas while staring blankly at a computer monitor hoping to write an essay that can convince admissions committees of top MBA programs to accept you.

The pressure to prepare a successful essay leads many applicants to ask, “What should a winning essay look like?”

Here are 4 tips to help those who are hesitant to take an essay prepared by enrolled MBA students as a template or example for creating their own.

How to write an essay like an HBS student?

A month ago, six students from Harvard Business School started a new business called the MBA Bee. They offer essays for admission to already enrolled students.

Yes that's right.

Of course, you can purchase an essay for money that has been verified by the HBS admissions committee. The MBA Bee founders persuaded classmates to give them copies of their essays. The first hope to expand the scope of activities to other business schools.

MBA Bees believe that foreign, military or non-traditional applicants do not always have the friends or connections to access successful, already vetted essays. Thus, they provide assistance to this category of candidates to overcome the information gap in the process of preparing an MBA essay.

Buyers beware!

Many MBA applicants will be tempted to look at such essays as the Model of True Writing for Admission. Much more - just build their own on the basis of this model with the aim of being accepted into the MBA program. And some may go even further, copying parts or an entire essay, which will certainly serve as a guarantee of rejection to Harvard or another business school. (Any form of plagiarism is immediately recognized by the "veterans" of admissions committees). While there is nothing wrong with candidates wanting to see the successful writings of already enrolled students, it is disturbing that MBA applicants develop a narrow focus on the essay but forget about the bigger picture:

Admissions committees consider the whole package for admission, not just essays.

Another concern is that by concentrating on preparing a successful essay, applicants forget about the main thing that makes them interesting and unique during admission - their personality.

Next steps

If you really plan to use someone else's essay as the basis of your own, follow these four tips:

1. You can read the essays of already enrolled students, realizing that they were accepted not only because of the essay.

2. You will see an example of one essay from the whole course, so you won't have a complete picture unless you have 900+ HBS student papers.

3. By reading other applicants' statements and modeling your own from them (which is like trying to fit a square peg into a circle), you have a good opportunity to sound alien to yourself - just like someone else has already sounded.

4. If you put too much emphasis on the essay, you can lose the chance to understand yourself, what really sets you apart and drives you, but also the ambitions in life.

Remember that at the core of MBA programs is learning about you, not from isolated stories tailored to fit your life. Try to present your true self, not a version of another student who was accepted into business school.
