Resilience is the capacity to get better from adversity. It is a significant ability for dealing with life’s inevitable obstacles and one of the chief components to achievement. Learning to get better and to move ahead. Such as obstacles a few younger people may have to face where resiliency abilities are vital: bodily illness, exchange of school, transitioning to college, changes in family (divorce, death, and break up), fights with peers, battle with own family. Resilient people are relaxed in talking about and expressing all of their emotions.

Why is resilience important?

Students go through an immense amount of bodily and mental changes on a day to day basis. In school, college, extra- curricular activities, friend circle and social life, family environment etc. young adults have so many encounters and obstacles. Staying resilient gives them the ability to tackle these encounters, rebound back from any challenges and have a better possibility to attain success. It enables them to learn and develop in every circumstance. Resilience will also help them to approach new situations, people or experiences with confidence and a positive mind set, which will make them more likely to succeed.

Ways to teach resilience? 

We are all intrinsically resilient, but fear, uncertainty and confusion can win over us in difficult situations of stress and trouble. These reactions can hamper our capacity to use our resilience just when we require it the most. The present times have made it impossible to conduct online classes thus teachers have to rely on various education app to impart knowledge to them. Thankfully there are few ways by which teachers can enhance the resilience of students. Let’s discuss these ways which can also be used in online teaching methods. 

  • Produce a safe and understanding environment

Pay major attention on forming an environment in which all scholars feel understood and cared. Motivate them to get out of their comfort zone and try on various novel things, and point out the key learning’s and positive benefits which they have received even when they made a mistake or failed at a work. When students get an idea about the severity of outcomes, especially negative outcomes, they are better able to experiment with things and develop themselves fully. Being capable of learning from their own failures and questions in a place where they sense support and care will construct their self-assurance, self-perception and resilience.

  • Focus on progress and not just the success

When it involves building resilience, it is actually all about the journey and no longer the target! Breaking down a bigger goal into small steps is the one technique which always helps a person to prevent feelings of overwhelm. It helps an individual to get that starting point and move further. 

  • Establish the feelings of belongingness among the students

Studies indicate that one of the best ways to develop resilience in young adults is to feel oneself as part of something. When students sense that what they do affects people on a bigger scale, they may be much more likely to push through failures and to stay positive about the consequences. Motivate your students to interact with the faculty and community past their social groups by way of volunteering at NGOs, guiding younger scholars or participating in co-curricular activities etc. Being indulged in what’s going on with their friends and the college implants a thought in them that their indulgence can and could have a fantastic impact on others in addition to themselves.
