Consumer interest in hardwood floors is increasing, and so is the awareness of different surface treatments. There are several different options to choose from such as finish, oil, and wax. To finish a wooden floor is the most common treatment consumers tend to go for.

The difference between finish and oil is that a finish builds up a surface. This surface is a protecting layer, and the resistance depends on how wear resistant the finish is. In contrast, oil gives the hardwood floor an impregnation. The hardness and wear resistance of the wooden floor is critical to the survival of the floor.

A number of factors influence the choice of treatment. Finish and oil have advantages and disadvantages making them more or less suitable for certain environments. The advantage of a finish is that you can get unbeatable wear and tear resistance. Finished wooden floors are also easy to clean and maintain. Finish is available in gloss, silk, matt, and satin.

The advantage of oil is that it more often than not looks great. It is scratch resistant. There is also the possibility to spot repair worn or damaged areas. The use of oil in public places is more suitable on dark wood. The oil enhances the colour, and the dirt is not as visible as on lighter wood. But not only does the shade of the mullican hardwood flooring affect the choice of surface treatment, the hardness of the wood is important too.

It is also very important to choose the right type of wood for a specific environment. For example, the use of oil on a ash floor in a shop would not be a suitable treatment, unless you are willing to put a lot of effort in maintenance. Ash is a light kind of wood and shop floors tend to have heavy traffic. Other examples of light kinds of wood are beech, pine, and maple, which are also not suitable for public areas with high traffic.

A sports hall floor is also not suitable for oil. The reason is that sports hall floors need regular cleaning, and that means that the oil is washed away, and the floor would need regular maintenance. Wooden floors add beauty and value to your home. Choosing the right surface treatment will result in a beautiful, durable, and easy to maintain wooden floor.
