Let me state this outright: Pornography and masturbation are fundamental human rights. Remember, money was created by governments for the purpose of facilitating economic transactions. The goal of our economy is not to make people work; it is to provide people with goods and services. LessWrong promotes lifestyle changes believed to lead to increased rationality and self-improvement.

He was leading the discussion Socratically, which is in general a good method of teaching—but like anything else can be used to teach things that are wrong, and is in some ways more effective at doing so because it has a way of making students think they came up with the answers on their own. They are the 0. If you are having a lot of sex with a lot of women, you are a good and worthy man.

Rationality: From AI to Zombies - In practice this is used by people who want to be free to give offense and reliably hit the roof when they're on the receiving end, and Lee Daniel Crocker was not happy with Yudkowsky's use of his name for this. Ten years ago, almost everything I believed was wrong.

LessWrong is a community dedicated to developing rationality. Doing this as a group develops a specialized culture of support and growth. In order to get the most from Less Wrong, it's highly recommended to … also read about rationality. MEETUPS: Our social is first Friday of the month. Come and stretch your brain with us! There are occasional exceptions to the dates, so check the group for upcoming events to confirm. Other events can be arranged - make suggestions in the group. Meetup details accurate as of February 2018. Potential dealbreakers: - I'm a little noise sensitive - very much empiricism, but I don't mind a little sandboxed woo. Emotions will be validated. Whiteboards and diagrams may be … used. There was to be a dojo tomorrow, but again we all seem to be otherwise occupied, so that is canceled. There was early enthusiasm for fortnightly meetups, and I still like the idea, but it hasn't worked out. That's okay — life gets in the ways sometimes. I would love to help dojos to happen again, as part of a cooperative … effort. If suggesting something that would take organising energy, please be clear whether you are offering to do it yourself or are requesting someone else to do it. Announcement: No dojo this Sunday! More reason to go to the social tomorrow Friday 3rd Aug. We need to work out who's organising what and how, then we'll get them going again. If you're keen to help in some way, let us know. I'm also keen, but won't be taking the initiative for the next few months. ALSO NOTE: If you want to organise a catch-up or just to announce that you're doing a thing and others can join, that's also cool! Hi everyone, apologies if this is off topic but.... I really want to find some people to play diplomacy with. If you don't know it, it's a seven person board game, kind of like a cross between risk, seven-way … chess and survivor. There are no dice rolls - everything is strategic and it's got a lot of really interesting layers. I used to play it back in the UK when I knew more people who were into that kind of thing but it's a bit of a commitment - you basically need to set aside a full day to play it. I thought maybe interest in this kind of ridiculous activity might be aligned to people in this group. So yeah - is anyone interested in playing? I can provide a venue at my house in East Melbourne so pretty central. So ye let me know if you're interested in the idea please. Also, this game is famous for wrecking friendships which is maybe why I haven't found anyone to play it with. I though this might be relevant to LW members so am posting here too How do you battle your cognitive biases? We all mostly know we have them - and the list of biases and related fallacies is so long few of … us can list even half of them. We are mostly aware that when we fall prey to our biases we increase our risk of making poor decisions. And a lot of the time they don't matter. Not every decision is critical. Paranoia is the tendency to assume other people are trying to … harm you when their actual motivations are unclear, and this tendency is increased when interacting with someone of a higher social status or opposing political beliefs, according to the study published today in Royal Society Open Science. We want to find out and discuss what elements of AI that we as a community are concerned about and require an ethical framework to be developed Responsible AI 101 - What does responsible AI mean?

Shit Rationalist Say

We will be better able to pay attention to counter evidence those anomalous bits of data that make our picture of the world a del weirder, more mysterious, less clean, less done. The job less wrong cleaning up after horses is done with rare exceptions. If we choose to ignore what they say, the result is fragmentation, isolation, and — in some cases — righteous violence. Things are better than they used to be—a lot solo —and keeping this in mind will help us preserve the hope and dedication necessary to make things even better still. less wrong We form theories with little evidence and then — because — start to blur, distort, and reshape our vision. If we could invent a machine today that would do the job of everyone in the tout and thereby put us all out of work, most people think that would be terrible—but in fact it would be wonderful. The most popular post of all time on LessWrong, for example, is an assessment of SIAI by charity evaluator GiveWell. Violence does not stem from a psychopathic jesus of morality.
